January, 2020 (Oh, What a Night)

My Experience at Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons

By Grant Silver

On January 26th, 2020 I saw Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons live at DPAC. I decided to go see the show since I love songs like “Can't Take My Eyes off of You” and “Who Loves You”. I also heard that he is 85 years old and was curious to see what an iconic singer could do at 85. My experience at the concert was  really great and I had a lot of fun! One highlight from the night for me was the song “The Night” which was the 1st single released for his album “Chameleon,” which wasn't very popular upon its original release. Even though this song wasn't very popular and maybe some audience members were not aware of it, The Four Seasons performed a great modern version that made it appeal to everyone.

Another highlight of the night was when the band performed a modernized version of the song “Tell it to the Rain”. Even though the original version of this song doesn't hold up the best in 2020, the band performed a darker version of the track with a rocking guitar solo in the middle. Frankie’s cover of the Cole Porter song “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” was also excellent and showed off what he still has as a singer. Other highlights were the disco track “Swearin to God” which had a sax solo and the energetic “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)” which showed off the backing vocalists holding their own with a legend. Then of course, the crowd pleasers such as “Can't Take My Eyes Off of You” and “Big Girls Don't Cry”. If you have the opportunity to see Frankie live on this tour or another one, I highly recommend it and guarantee you will have a lot of fun. Thanks to DPAC for this opportunity!
