Celtic Women Blog
By Liam Shopmyer
I’ll preface this review by saying, before this show I had no idea what Celtic Women was. I barley knew it was a band, but being Irish descent I’m well familiar with Irish folk music. I wasn’t entirely sure at first, as much as I love Irish music I didn’t known if I could do a full 70 minutes. But when I sat down, the lights dimmed, and as soon as Tara struck the bow to her Violin I knew I was in for a good time. Everyone in the theater felt the energy, they were lively on stage, and we were lively in our seats. Each instrument got it’s time to shine, and as a musician I was infatuated seeing these performers do what they do best. The members clearly were having fun performing, each milling about the stage dancing, singing, tapping, what have you. Not once did I feel bored or “that’s enough bagpipes”, if anything I would’ve been excited for more. That brings me to my favorite song of the show, Orinoco Flow. It was towards the end, but the energy was still there even after an hour. I really saw each person on stage playing their part as it came together in this clockwork of song. Paired with a DPAC pretzel and a Coke it was the perfect pre- St. Patrick’s Day show.
