An Unmatched Experience at Mystery Science Theater 3000

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live: Time Bubble Tour leaves you wishing it was longer, unlike the name of the show. The entire event ranks in the upper echelon of performance based events I’ve seen in my short life. For those of you who understand the gravity of this: I had a better experience watching this show live than I did Avengers Endgame on release day. Words cannot describe how perfect this show was for me. And to others that may be a downfall, the show is a very specific set of comedy. It’s an amalgamation of pop culture references and humor that give it this charming appearance. With references to BBC’s Doctor Who, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, all the way to Kung Pow: Enter the Fist and Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock and Roll, the show is so nuanced in much of its comedy. Even myself, an avid 80’s pop culture buff, had a few jokes go right over my head. The biggest flaw with the show overall were the few and far between “modern” jokes about NFTs and Animal Crossing. Again, they weren’t common but the few that came up stuck out as ‘servicey’ to me. The actors and actresses all worked well with each other and the robots as well, granted with some campiness. The show does have a lot of the “Sam Raimi'' campiness in the scenes not directly discussing the movie, but I found that pretty charming as well. I just can’t say enough good about this show, and it is far and away the best show I’ve seen at the DPAC. It was so good it made me buy a $65 hoodie, which is of thankfully good quality. I’ve worn it thrice and it’s soft, comfy, and even after being washed three times it’s still fuzzy on the inside. The inner pocket is a good size, and the stitching is quality, I feel like it will last me a while. I love the designs on it too, and now people will know I was lucky enough to see this show live.
