Jim Gaffigan Ambassador Blog

My family’s favorite way to finish a busy day is to sit down to dinner and view highlights from our favorite stand-up comedians. Jim Gaffigan is regularly put on the TV whenever we’re seeking a laugh, some of his classic jokes are often quoted in our daily dialogue. So naturally, I was ecstatic when I got to see him in person at the DPAC.
Due to Gaffigan’s popularity, he was slated to do two shows in one night, so staff and volunteers were ready and focused on preparing the guest experience for back-to-back shows. Prior to the show starting, I had the fantastic opportunity to volunteer with DPAC volunteer, Theresa. She taught me the anatomy of the DPAC theater and how to properly guide guests in the direction of their seats. While it wasn’t initially natural to puzzle out the best route to seats, I was able to settle in and get the hang of it. It was so special to interact with so many DPAC guests, anticipation for the incredible show was in the air; evident in their smiles and eagerness to find their seats.
Afterward, I met up with the other DPAC Performing Arts Ambassador at the show Liam Shopmyer. We made sure to turn off our phones before the show to be respectful and also because, for this specific show, no videography or photography was allowed. After settling in our seats, we sat back, and prepared for the lights to dim and the show to begin. Laughter overtook the audience the entire night, it was so novel seeing a comedian who I have watched online for so many years live. The show ended on a humorously light note, and as I exited the wooden doors to the lobby I couldn’t help but notice that I was surrounded by matching smiles, many guests still giggling after his final joke.
