Beetlejuice Ambassador Blog

Being an Ambassador at DPAC, I get the opportunity to go behind the scenes and meet the incredible volunteers who work there. Volunteers are the backbone of any organization and my latest visit to DPAC to see Beetlejuice gave me the chance to work with Bev. Though this mind-blowing musical is now an absolute favorite of mine, I would love to highlight some of my time working with her before the show began.
As a retired art teacher over at Wake County, Bev has spent the past year and a half of her life volunteering at DPAC. On opening night of Beetlejuice, she gave me a mini tour around the building prior to being stationed together at the box office to help direct people inside the building and get their tickets. She taught me how the job worked and then we greeted guests at the door, directed them either to the will call window or toward the ticket scanner, and complimented everybody on all the fun Beetlejuice-inspired outfits they had on. It’s always so enjoyable to see how people dress up for these shows! I personally love spending my time at DPAC, and so while chatting with Bev, I decided to ask what made her initially want to start volunteering here, to which she replied, “I grew up in the state of Oklahoma and there was not much art or theater, and so it is such a privilege and an honor that we have this here…I just love having that opportunity.”
After working with Bev for over an hour, it was time to see the show! The top two contenders for Bev’s favorite play are Les Miserable and Jesus Christ Superstar; however, my new favorite may just be Beetlejuice. The cast and crew of this production was phenomenal, though I especially loved observing the lighting and set design because every scene was executed in such a creative way. If you have yet to see Beetlejuice, I highly encourage you to experience it on stage at DPAC (showing until Sunday, April 16th).
There are a plethora of new and exciting shows coming to DPAC next season that I recommend you keep an eye on. However, the next time you go, don’t forget to appreciate all the hard-working volunteers who help make everything possible!
