Reflection on my Time Volunteering Before the Show
By: Naomi Schwankle-Jobe
This was my first time doing a show as a DPAC ambassador and it was a marvelous experience. I was paired with a very sweet lady in event services. She was incredibly helpful explaining the job and helping me when I was not sure what to do. Most of what we did was greeting people and directing them in the right direction or answering any questions they might have before the show started. While doing this I saw so many fantastic outfits. Nearly everyone was dressed to the nines in sequins, boas and of course the fabulous pink glasses of Randy Rainbow. I almost bought a pair for myself, they looked so cool! The other volunteers were great and would chat with me about the ambassador program, DPAC, and my school when there was a lull in the crowd. They made me feel very welcome and a part of the community. Most of the volunteers knew each other and all seemed close. This was so interesting to me because I think the people coming to DPAC don't often pay attention to the people greeting them at the door or helping with their tickets or coats. When they are such a important part of the show's execution and getting everyone where they are supposed to be.
The show itself was a hoot! The number of times I laughed, clapped, and cheered was immeasurable. I had not heard of Randy Rainbow before the show, but I am so happy I was able to see him last night. His outfits were amazing! I especially loved his pink suit covered in pink sequined glasses. As my first time doing a DPAC show I am very happy to have had it be this show with this group of people!
