Ambassadors at Widespread Panic
By : Kai
Before the lobby even opened, the nearby streets were hopping with tremendous energy- fans of Widespread Panic buying food, merchandise, and even trying to find a spare ticket from the otherwise sold out show. All of this pre-show excitement was found at the Block Party right outside DPAC (pictured above). Soon enough, this energy would trickle into the lobby as guests eagerly awaited the start of the show.

Tonight, I was working with the lovely people behind the ticketing booth. Since I was not involved in any sales as tonight was completely sold out (as with all Widespread Panic nights!), I was mainly able to help by locating and distributing the proper “will call” tickets, as well as learning how the seat availability system works! Unfortunately, we did have to turn a number of people away as there were no remaining seats, but this crowd was so supportive and patient with us as they knew we were a bit behind on ticket orders. It did take a lot of back-and-forth travel, but definitely was worth it in the end to see the guests happy to have their seats.

This show was honestly incredible. I had not listened to any of Widespread Panic’s music before tonight (or even heard of them before this event), but their sound was truly unrivaled. From the box seats the Ambassadors sat in, we could feel the vibrations of the music (in particular, the bass) throughout the whole show. The vocals matched the songs so smoothly, it’s hard to believe that at one point they were where all bands start off- small band with only a handful of listeners. The percussion (including complex, at least from an outsider's view, drumsets) played such an important role in tying each piece together, and the talent and skill that each musician demonstrated tonight was spectacular. This concert embodied the spirit of rock music and certainly left plenty of fans feeling satisfied and elated. There was truly never a dull moment.
The band matched the audience’s energy so well. You can definitely tell that they love performing for crowds like tonight, where everyone is dancing and having fun- taking a moment to be human, and not worrying about what comes next. This concert brought together a huge variety of people, and all of them were there for the same reason- to enjoy some good music. Widespread Panic certainly delivered, and paired it with spectacular concert lighting that was very visually pleasing to see from the box seats. The guests brought their all as well, dancing for the duration of the show and many dressing in sparkly, bright outfits.
As much as I would recommend going to see the show tomorrow, the tickets sold out for every single performance this band had (as I mentioned earlier)! Truly a testament to their fan base and wide appeal. I’d suggest at least checking them out on music streaming platforms!
That’s all for now,
Kai Crowe :)
