DPAC Ambassadors at Sarah Silverman Blog
By Mahlaya
On Friday, November 8th, thanks to DPAC, I had the privilege of seeing Sarah Silverman live!
Before the show, I was granted the opportunity to shadow DPAC’s Lead Usher, Ms. Alexis. While shadowing her, I learned how DPAC’s seating is organized, and how to help people find their seats. The most important thing I learned was how important every job at DPAC is. Simple things that are overlooked, such as showing people where they sit, are in fact fundamental to DPAC’s shows. It was fascinating to see how Ms. Alexis was able to read each person’s ticket, remember exactly where their seats were, and successfully guide them.
This event was a “Yondr” show, so everyone’s non-medical digital devices had to be locked away in “Yondr” pouches that could only be unlocked after the show, because it was potentially being filmed for a future project and they wanted to ensure that no part of the show was leaked prematurely.
The title of her tour is “The Postmortem Tour” because it is mostly her reminiscing and sharing funny stories about her parents, who have passed away. From her show, I learned that even in grief, you can honor and find humor in the memories of your loved ones. Personally, it was also nostalgic and surreal to hear the voice of Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck-It-Ralph, one of my favorite characters from my childhood. Overall, seeing Sarah Silverman live and getting to Shadow Ms. Alexis was a wonderful experience that I'm grateful for.
